My own experience with an assisted living facility has been quite good. Formerly my grandmother was a resident of an assisted living facility. The facility was specifically built for seniors and was that of an apartment like structure. The facility provided social and recreational activities on a continual basis. There was also transportation service available for residents who wished to use it. My grandmother thoroughly enjoyed living in an assisted living facility where she had the opportunity to make numerous friends, participate in activities and remain independent.

The long-term care facility can be either hospital-based or freestanding. It consists of an organized medical staff, which provides continuous nursing services under professional nurse direction. State licensure is mandatory, Federal regulation is only necessary if the facility participates with Medicare and Medicaid, and JCAHO standards are voluntary.

Long term-care is very expensive and it often becomes a financial catastrophe for the elderly person and their family. Private insurance is unlikely to cover the full cost of care and Medicare only pays for a limited amount. The person usually must eliminate a substantial amount of their assets to become eligible for Medicaid which covers long term care.

Regretfully, the cost is not the only disturbing factor of a long-term care facility. Regular visits by all family members continually raised concerns about the quality of care that he was receiving. Staffing was also a concern for our family. It seemed there was not enough staff to meet the needs of the patients within the facility. Although licensing agencies regulated these aspects, this was not comforting to our concerns.

Fortunately, we were able to move my grandfather to a different facility. The nursing home was newer and better staffed and all family members felt more comfortable about the care he was receiving. The experience of placing a loved one into a long term care facility is one I would prefer to not experience again.

It is comforting to know that there are good facilities availab! These aspects are very important for families to understand before making a final decision when they must place a loved one into a facility. Hospice Unfortunately the last resort for some patients may be hospice care. The cost of employing qualified personnel in the medicine field is another issue at hand. This expensive nature of health care has resulted to lack medical technology, drugs and also qualified personnel in many health cares.

Access to health is the determinant factor of the health disparities; universal coverage can never be a cure for this. Unfortunately, health disparities are affecting the minority groups in the society. These include women, children, the elderly, the disabled and the people living in the rural areas. They have very limited access to health services and are less likely to get proper medical care and attention. Governments ought to increase the affordability and accessibility of health services to make them readily available for the groups.

In addition to this, health care systems are carelessly losing many patients daily. Some patients die from the errors and accidents as a result of the carelessness of the working personnel in the health sectors. The doctors and nurses sometimes attempt procedures that need not to be done resulting to more harm or the death of the patients.

This has been a very serious issue in many countries. Free essays, essay examples, sample essays and essay writing tips for students. High school essays, college essays and university essays on any topics. Monday, April 9, Essay on Health Care.

Essay on Health Care as a Career Explain long-term goals and why you chose healthcare as a career. I have always known that the opportunity to help people will be the most important feature of my future occupation. Being a sociable and helpful person, I never miss an opportunity to help someone in need because the joy of seeing a smile on the face of the person who was worried only a few minutes and to know that you had a role in helping this person is to me the greatest pleasure in the world.

Choosing a field, I was positive of one thing — I wanted an occupation that would give a chance for proper application of my intellectual potential and my willingness to help others. Receiving the nursing degree is a chance to join my spiritual and intellectual pursuits in an attempt to make the most of my abilities in a meaningful and challenging job.

My interest in medicine began many years ago. I helped my mother who was a nurse and took care for my dying grandfather. This made a big impression on me. Since early childhood I felt deep compassion for the sufferings of sick people. To see someone in my family go down with a severe illness was a real tragedy for me, and unfortunately I had to see a few such instances.

This made me sensitive to sufferings in all people and inspired me to strive for knowledge that will help relieve these pains.
